So I’m libertarian
Until a few days ago I had no idea what libertarianism really was. I’ve heard the name but I never really understood it because I was so consumed with the two parties, and I’ve never seen any recommendations for it or articles about it. But when I was watching the 2nd debates, on the side in the YouTube recommendations I saw a parody video of Donald Trump debating a woman called Joe Jorgensen. Instead of it being funny, it was eye-opening. Everything she said just clicked, and this wasn’t even a real debate this was just a spoof. I had to learn more. So that led me into the rabbit hole, and I spent hours on YouTube looking up libertarianism. I ran across Spike Cohen, Penn Jillette, Matt Kibbe and others. I joined this subreddit a couple of days ago and just lurked around and read the posts. What I discovered was I was pretty libertarian all along and just never knew. I’ve always called myself a economic conservative/social liberal because I didnt feel I fit in with either party and I didnt have the burning hate for the other side like some of my friends.
I can’t really describe how this feels, this is like a breath of fresh air or like waking up from a nightmare. I can’t tell you how relieved I am to find this, to see that there is a side that doesn’t hate other sides for just existing and actually has an compelling argument.
My first presidential vote will be for Joe Jorgensen. I’m overjoyed to be voting for her, not because she’s a “lesser evil” like I would have for another candidate. I get to vote for her because I actually agree with her policies. Which gives me hope I really didnt have just a few days ago.
