Can I Retain My Libertarian Card, or Must I Relinquish it because of my libertarian hot takes?
I’ve been grappling with a question lately, and I’m hoping to get some insight from my fellow libertarians. As someone who values individual freedom and limited government intervention, I find myself wondering: do my beliefs still align with libertarianism if I hold certain views that some might consider ‘unorthodox’?
For instance, I believe that healthcare should be affordable but not “free” and accessible to people at least making minimum wage. Does this belief contradict the principles of libertarianism, or is there room within the ideology for advocating for certain social safety nets?
Additionally, I don’t necessarily view taxes as inherently evil. While I’m all for minimizing government waste and ensuring that taxes are used efficiently, I recognize that some level of taxation is necessary to fund essential services and infrastructure that benefit society as a whole.
So, what do you think? Am I a bad libertarian for holding these beliefs, or is there room for diversity of thought within the libertarian movement? I’m genuinely curious to hear your perspectives.
Looking forward to a lively discussion!
