Less gun control for individuals, more gun control for corporations. Thoughts?
Okay so, I’ve been involved with many debates with a lot of Americans on gun control since Uvalde, and plenty prior to that over the years.
It seems that most Americans have one excuse or another for why they should be able to own a gun, but none for why they need to buy them.
As it turns out, the majority of illegal gun crime in neighbouring countries such as Mexico actually comes from illegal US firearms. Manufacturers make too many, they try to sell as many as they can by putting adverts out and pimping the idea that everyone’s family is in danger, and when they can’t sell any more, the excess goes to black markets in countries that are trying to reduce gun crime.
Meanwhile, the average American gun owner doesn’t see the problem, because what they see is their right to own a gun and their need to use it under certain circumstances.
Well, okay. The second amendment is the right to bear arms, but it isn’t the right to sell arms, or the right to purchase arms.
Anyone can have a gun, anyone can cary one, but you just can’t sell or buy them. If you want a gun, you have to make one yourself.
This fits entirely with libertarianism as far as I can see, and has the added benefit of teaching people respect for the weapons.
Thoughts?
