“The man who produces while others dispose of his product, is a slave” – Ayn Rand. This is used to argue against redistribution of wealth, but not against Marx’s ‘alienation.’ Why?
- I’m not a Marxist, but I do recognize alienation as a legitimate concern
- Contrary to what I imagine the major response will be (“voluntary contract”), I do not believe that agreeing to alienation is pragmatically voluntary for a large majority of people; there’s just no other realistic option, so effectively most people are coerced into it.
