How to give equal opportunities?
So I was having a discussion with this girl who works in tech (same as me) about that Morgan Stanley position open only for minorities (basically a position where only straight white and asian males are not allowed to apply).
Of course I thought that this is wrong, if you want to give equal opportunities you should do it based on individual income (or family income/situation), instead of classifying everyone into a racial/ethnic group. Her argument is that any initiative for the underrepresented is a great step towards inclusion and diversity. I believe this division between job application is gonna bring even more division inside the workforce..
In my opinion we should strive to give equal opportunities in high school and university (not trough affirmative action), but not on job openings. Maybe though open programs target towards minorities, but that anyone could join if he wanted.
As a European I found that job opening quite disturbing and was even wondering how it is even legal, then discussing it with some friends I found out that someone I know actually is a firm supporter.
What do you think about this issue, which is the best way to help the underrepresented in a libertarian society? Is it even a big issue? I’m an advocate for equality of opportunity but this seems to me like a forced equality of outcome.
Thanks in advance
