Crazy How Many People Don’t Understand Libertarianism
I work a part time gig where I spend some time sitting in front of the door to the establishment and greeting guests that come in. I’m allowed to read while I’m waiting and I’m reading The Libertarian Mind by David Boaz as an introduction to Libertarian politics and philosophy (great read btw, I agree with so much and am learning a lot). Sometimes people ask me what I’m reading, and it’s really interesting to see how people react. Most are pretty neutral, but there are a fair number that react with somewhat of a skeptical look or just straight up judgement. Maybe a joke here or there about it. Many people seem to equate Libertarianism with being Republican somehow. It’s just interesting to me. I actually think many people I know who talk about the current state of our economy would really agree with most Libertarian ideas if they just actually read about it. Maybe more experienced Libertarians can explain why this is? Do you have similar experiences? Anyway, excited to learn more about this stuff. It really resonates with me. submitted by /u/tedder98 [link] [comments]
