We can be a little more pragmatic…
Mask mandates ARE NOT TYRANNY, especially for absolute essentials like the grocery store. Get over it. The government has a duty to manage a contagious illness.
If masks work (they do) we don’t need lock downs. Like I literally don’t understand. It’s a zero burden health measure. WEAR A DAMN MASK AND I HOPE YOUR GOVERNOR MAKES YOU.
Stop whining about masks and start yelling about ENDLESS WARS, MOUNTING DEBT, AND AN ENVIRONMENT THAT CAN BE SAVED WITH NUCLEAR ENERGY.
A Classical Liberal approach, of limited, yet pragmatic government is our best bet for liberty!
Me: “Asking for basic public health measures in the midst of a pandemic isn’t really asking for too much lol.”
Them: “Forcing people to do anything isn’t Libertarian or American. “
Me: “So why do you drive on the right side of the road? Some measures are not unreasonable. Mitigating contagious diseases is a legitimate duty of the government.”
Them: “Who said I always drive on the right side of the road? Last I checked, driving on the wrong side of the road is an infraction punishable by fine, which basically makes it legal for a cost. 🤷 And as far as government involvement in the face of pandemics is concerned, government should be required to present actual and factual information to their citizens, and let them make their own decisions. If you want politicians to dictate to you how to live your life, maybe America isn’t for you. North Korea is a better fit for someone looking to have politicians run their life. The Libertarian party definitely isn’t where to look for that.🤷”
Me: “Asking people to wear a mask is hardly authoritarian. And if you’re going to pretend that’s anything even close to North Korea, this conversation isn’t worth having. At the end of the day contagious diseases fall under the wing of the government, like violent threats. That has nothing to do with authoritarianism. Like nothing at all.
So stand on your pedestal while we have the highest number of COVID deaths in the developed world. Pragmatism isn’t antithetical to liberty. They go hand in hand.”
