Firearm Background Check Denial – Appeal Process
I decided to buy my first firearm this weekend. Wal-Mart had a shotgun on sale and I am looking to start hunting, perfect!
I fill out my background check, the clerk says that since I’m a first time buyer I may have to wait a few days to hear back….ok…no big deal.
2 days later I call to check in, my background check was denied… I was given a pamplet (from December 2010) to guide me through the NICS appeal process. There is no human being to talk to, and the online appeal site does not load. EVER.
This is particularly frustrating because I am a teacher, I just completed a federal background check for my job 3 months ago and everything went fine. I’m seeing that the wait time on this appeal process can take from 2 months to SEVERAL YEARS. I’m frustrated beyond belief because as of now I am not able to own a firearm and I can’t even find out why.
Has anyone been through this process? Any advice on how to possibly get this done as quickly as possible?
