Question about HOAs from a European
Hey everyone, I’m an European living (unfortunately) in a social democratic country, so my perspective on Homeowners’ Associations (HOAs) is probably a bit skewed and I’m curious about the general libertarian perspective on them. From what I understand, HOAs are private organizations that can regulate and enforce rules within a community. However, they seem to have a reputation for being quite restrictive, sometimes imposing a lot of limitations on property owners. This feels counterintuitive to the idea of personal freedom, yet they are a form of self-governance in the community. How do you all feel about HOAs? Do you see them as an acceptable form of private contract and community management, or are they too intrusive for your liking? Are there any libertarian principles that make them either justifiable or intolerable? I’d love to hear your thoughts, especially since I’m coming from a social democratic background and may not fully grasp the nuances. Thanks! submitted by /u/ennepi97 [link] [comments]
