Electoral College, Parties and finding the right system
I imagine a system where people vote for the electors and not for the parties. A system where anyone can apply to be an elector and the electoral roll is made based in the knowledge of the individual. (Tests of history, philosophy, administration, math, economy, arts, science and a psychological evaluation).
A commission made by the most prestigious universities needs to confection those tests in order to prevent political bias.
Then the electors with more information and knowledge could make their decision by virtue of justice and progress. Not just for political revenue.
It’s hard for people to really know (myself included) what’s best for the country with so much disinformation, misleading propaganda made by the candidates campaigns and just thinking about the left-right spectrum and not in terms of what’s right for everyone. So if people can vote for the most transparent and right Elector it’s better than just vote for political parties or preconceived ideas of the candidates.
If we have the hypothetical chance to dinner with Eisenhower, Reagan, Truman, Roosevelt, Kennedy, Obama, Trump, Clinton, Biden, or Bush for example. We could have so much more information to determine who is the most right president.
In the current system the protest vote isn’t an option when neither of the candidates feels good enough. No chance to change them.
I’m not an American but I have been thinking for years what’s the right system to select the leaders of a state and for me the original purpose of the Electoral College it’s the best.
The president should not be categorized by his/her party but for what he/she is or was. Like Abraham Lincoln.
Do you think this system would work?
