Should authority be questioned?
I’ve been hearing a lot of conservatives expressing disdain for the counterculture movement because it’s supposedly Marxist and teaches people to rebel against the system—ditto for the civil rights movement, and the sexual revolution. I even saw a video where a some guy blamed “the decay of American values” on Hollywood; his whole argument was that because many movies feature rebel-against-the-system characters, Hollywood is dominated by Marxists and are thus subverting the state. Essentially, he is arguing about “cultural Marxism.”
So, how true are the claims made by Yuri Bezmenov about apparent subversion in the US (I’ve heard this mentioned multiple times by conservatives)? And is that even a bad thing? Is cultural Marxism a real thing? Should all authority be questioned? And why do American conservatives seem to have such an obsession with hierarchy and authority?
