Opinions on offshore drilling?

I know the Trump administration were big fans of it, allowing leases on almost all waters on both coasts and Alaska until recently (Trump banned it on the east coast I believe, correct me if I’m wrong though). I’m personally against it because the costs and potential of spills isn’t worth it, even though I could say the same thing about nuclear which I’m a big advocate of, so maybe I’m contradicting myself by liking nuclear but not offshore drilling, haha. I believe a free market in energy can solve environmental issues, so is it possible innovation can make offshore drilling safer (even though oil companies said that years ago and the BP oil spill happened)?
