We have all been warned about the Military Industrial Complex… but should we start to be concerned about the growing Political Industrial Complex?
Eisenhower warned us decades ago about the perverse incentives that will result if a giant industry thrives on incessant geopolitical conflict. This makes me wonder if there is a similar phenomenon occurring that thrives on intranational conflict.
Other subscribers on this sub are pointing out that election results should not be this paramount in our collective psyche. Is there a growing special interest that profits off our increasing interest in politics and election results? I am thinking of all the political pundits, attorneys, media executives, lobbyists, etc… And what about all the people who benefit from growing economies in federal and state capitals that have seen an influx of jobs created as a result of this growing political industry? Is this a new, powerful special interest group that will fight any effort to decrease the size and influence of government because housing prices might decline in places like DC, Sacramento, etc…?
