From a British Citizen Living in Australia
Looking forward to the down votes but I wanted to talk about my experiences with the public healthcare systems I’ve experienced in both counties. FYI, All figures will be in AUD$.
Yesterday I pricked myself on a rusty gate and needed to get a tetanus shot. I called my local GP who couldn’t see me due to the public holiday in VIC so the receptionist advised that I go to my local E&A. 45 min wait, got the shot, out in time for beers, no bill. The nurse even advised me that this was considered a longer than desired wait time as they were busy.
My experiences in the UK have all been similar. The only extended wait I can remember was 4 hours to have some stitches taken out. I’ve never seen a hospital bill in my life and have only ever paid small amounts for prescriptions, never in excess of $40.
On my average wage I pay roughly $1700 year of tax into public health.
Looking for your thoughts, if any.
And yes, by American standards, I’m aware that I’m considered far left lib. I’m writing this in my fur suit, you cunt.
