People are constantly bashing me for my vote. “You wasted your vote” “you might as well have stayed home” “you basically voted for Trump/Biden!” “Why vote third when it’s a winner-take-all?”
I always respond with first, telling them they are entitled to ONE vote, and just because my vote doesn’t count for their candidate doesn’t mean it doesn’t count. Do I think we will win this year? Absolutely not. Change isn’t going to happen in one election, but how many elections in a row are you going to settle for the lesser of two evils even tho you agree with the Libertarian platform more? Each time you feed into that mentality that we won’t win is another 4 years of your life. Additionally, how many people feel that way? How many people decide to vote for the 2 main parties because they don’t want to waste their vote on someone who has no chance to win? So, no. I don’t plan on winning this year. My hope is to raise awareness and prevalence. The higher percentage of third party voters, the more people will be willing to change when the see the trend heading in a positive direction. Hopefully next year this could get them on the debate stage and I know Jo would kill it out there. They know it too, that’s why only let the two parties debate. If we can get her to the debate stage, we could win it all.
Also, maybe this will expose the problem with the electoral college and winner-take-all system. In a true democracy, one person has one vote.
