Why are the Libertarian candidates in state and local elections almost always weird/obscure people? It’s difficult to find any information on them like a basic campaign page, photos, statements, anything.
In the last three states I’ve lived during elections (Nevada, Oregon, Idaho), I found a few libertarian candidates throughout my ballots but only a fourth or less have any actual campaign information anywhere. No website, no published statements, declined interviews/debates, and not even a picture to know who they are and what they look like. Just putting their name on a ballot just because I guess. When I do find a little information, several candidates are just weird people. Their political beliefs fit libertarian (for the most part), but their educations, careers, passions, other personal things are often strange – which makes me question if they’re a crazy fanatic or weird random person that I’d be embarrassed to vote for.
Being the largest 3rd party in America, I expect better. I know they usually don’t fair well in many races so not a lot of effort is put into campaigns, but a lot can and should be done in terms of organization, getting the message out, and recruiting new party members. Why does it seem like this party has no organization and doesn’t even try? Instead it’s letting the weirdo candidates make the actually good libertarian candidates look bad if that’s the only publicity I can find. No wonder they’re never taken seriously.
