Have considered myself an Objectivist for a long while now, what’s your take an self-interest?
Always had some conflict with self-interest since most seem to take it as selfishness, but I’ve never been a selfish person. I’d go so far as to say I’m altruistic, but some people I’ve talked to have a problem with that.
My take on it has always been that at the end of the day, what’s very important to me is the pursuit of my own happiness, but a part of that happiness is helping others.
I know some Objectivisits can be very rigid with their interpretations on Objectivism and I’ve been told because I’m not selfishly after my own self-interests, that I can’t call myself an Objectivist.
What’s your take on it?
