Democracy supporters: would you accept living under Sharia law if muslims became the majority in your area?
I just want to know how far your commitment to democracy goes. Do you put on the veil, convert to islam or pay the Sharia tax for being non-muslim.
Or do you finally reject democracy. Leaving the area would also constitute a rejection of democracy, by the way.
Take a look at this where a muslim makes this their stated intention, to become the majority and impose Sharia:
Which is completely allowed by democracy. Even with a constitution that ‘guarantees’ certain rights and freedoms, that document itself is changeable by those in the majority. A large enough muslim majority could rewrite the US constitution to anything they want, end the separation of church and state, etc.
If you support democracy you have to accept such an outcome and endorse it as both a possibility and something you’re okay with.
But somehow I doubt you are, if you are a non-muslim. Most of us do not want to live under Sharia. Can’t blame you for that. Yet if you have unconditional support for democracy you’d be forced to endorse this as a possibility.
It even happened in Egypt. In 2014 they had a revolution, kicked out their dictator, adopted a constitution that was magically already prepared, and now were living in a democracy. Only the masses heavily supported the Muslim Brotherhood, and with each vote they increasingly made the country more and more in line with Sharia.
Egypt has a lot of coptic Christians, now they’re forced to live under Sharia, because of democracy.
