Thoughts on Milei?
I haven’t followed this in depth but I like his economic analysis, liberal economic ideals and that he’s s trying to address the crazy inflation.
But I’ve got some doubts:
-
what he’s proposing is radical changes (scrap the central bank, dollarise the economy, massive cuts in tax and spending) – are Argentinian society ready to endure the pain of such drastic changes without breaking the social fabric and descending into riots?
-
he’s happy to chum himself with people like Bolsonaro and the Spanish party Vox, I would describe these entities more as right wing conservative in the social ideology (anti lgbt remarks, support for authoritarianism, anti-immigration), which doesn’t seem consistent with his liberal views .
-
his eccentricity, I like politicians boring, predictable and technocratic – his rockstar like persona is nice entertainment for the media, but will he risk damaging Argentina in the diplomatic world scale if he runs his mouth like I’ve seen him in videos
