Bans don’t work
Alcohol, drugs, abortion, guns, etc. Putting a government ban on these things will not work. If the goal is to minimize the prevalence of these things, a ban is not an effective policy.
The way I see it, a ban is essentially trying to counteract basic economic forces: there exists a strong demand for these things and thus a strong profit incentive to supply these things. The government is gonna have a really hard time overcoming that.
It absolutely boggles my mind when a Democrat argues for an “assault weapons” ban one day and argues that banning abortion would be a bad idea on the next day. Similarly, when a Republican argues for a ban on abortion and later argues against an “assault weapons” ban. What is with this logical disconnect??
I think people need to realize that government intervention is not the panacea for all the issues in the world. Further, the state forcefully intruding into other people’s lives to enforce your policy preferences is neither just nor moral.
