Libertarian / Left unity – Discussion
So look, I’m a lesbian, transgender woman. A lot of people would probably think I’m a little Biden loving shit lib until they spend some time talking to me. There are a lot of leftists who think very similarly to the way I do, we’re just not exactly the loudest of the bunch.
I’m: Pro-gun ownership, leftist, anarchist, extremely anti drug war, extremely anti-racism. I agree with some libertarians, but to be frank, libertarians seem as divided as the left does ever since the Tea Party bullshit and the Trump presidency.
I’m posting this because I’m curious to hear from some 2022 libertarians on how they feel about the left, and how we might find some common ground moving forward. The world is continuing to get more and more fucked at the same pace it’s been on ever since the pandemic. A lot of leftists have been radicalized in a libertarian-left kind of direction. A lot of leftists are more pro-gun than ever. A lot of us are extremely informed on the kind of harm the drug war has caused America and I think those are at least two things we all have in common.
I’ve seen libertarianism be used as a veil for socially “free-thinking” right wing types. I’ve seen a lack of logical regard for how a “free-market” might be implemented into our future world in the same way that leftists have a lack of regard for a logical transition toward socialism.
For all of our disagreements, we have an increasing amount of overlap, and a lot of notable similarities. So, that being said, I’m curious to hear from members of this subreddit on libertarian / leftist unity. How do we dissolve the negative stigma for each other and stand on the same side as people fighting for a freer, safer, more socio-economically tenable America.
