Larry Sharpe is making a huge mistake…
…can anyone in Larry’s circle convince him to at least consider running for Governor of New York as a REPUBLICAN in 2022?
Hear me out.
New York is one of the few states where the GOP does not have to kiss Donald Trump’s balls to win an election. The state is full of moderates who would likely find Larry Sharpe’s small government/personal freedom platform appealing. Furthermore, the NY Democratic Party is in a weak position with Cuomo’s antics and Kathy Hochul’s unpopular sweeping mandates. There’s a real sense of vulnerability in the new administration.
In 2018, Larry Sharpe mounted a pretty solid campaign by visiting every single inch of the state and speaking directly to the voters. He was personable, approachable, articulate and if the incumbent had not refused to debate, I believe he would have had a stronger showing than the pitiful 1% he received.
Still, the Libertarian Party will absolutely NEVER win a gubernatorial election in New York.
The thing is, the Republican Party has a chance. They also do not have any attractive candidates for 2022. Between the failed milquetoast candidate Rob Astorino, the insane Andrew Giuliani and insurrection supporter Lee Zeldin, I cannot see the GOP winning over independents.
Larry Sharpe could
If someone could convince Larry to seek the Republican nomination, he could very well win the whole thing. He’s the right candidate seeking the nomination of the wrong party. But New York’s electoral fusion system would still allow him to also run on the Libertarian Party line while simultaneously reaching voters as the alternative to the liberals everyone is so tired of and not being painted as a threatening conservative.
