“Orwell was a socialist”
Leftists say this as if it is some kind of epic own whenever you mention his works.. Orwell was a socialist in an ideal world, yes, but he was also a realist. He understood that socialism/communism in practice was worse than anything capitalism had ever done. Basically the epitome of “It’d be nice to have it, but it sucks in practice.” Hell, Animal Farm is an entire so-called “children’s” book about the stark contrast between ideal socialism/communism and actual socialism/communism.
He was an anti-authoritarian, and he ratted out tankie agents to the British government so he’s pretty based in my book. 1984, of course, is a universally revered book on the dangers of totalitarianism.
