Abortion is not murder, Redditors, prove me wrong.
Taking the life of another human being has “against the law” probably since there have been laws.
Abortion was an accepted practice at the time of the founding of the United States. There is no amendment to the constitution establishing the right to life to a fetus.
States did not an enact abortion laws until the 1800s, and then primarily to protect women from unsafe practices. The Catholic Church did not oppose abortion until the 1860s.
There are federal laws against murder, but there is no federal statute that addresses the question of abortion.
A legal case that abortion = Murder does not exist.
Also, restrictive laws are not the optimal way to reduce abortion, fewer unwanted pregnancies reduces the number of abortions.
