No, Reddit. DO NOT ask or encourage tyrannical Mods start being the arbiters of what is true about Covid.
We get it. Misinformation is bad. But tyranny and intellectual orthodoxy are worse.
It may start out great and the mods will start deleting “obviously” incorrect content. But soon enough, tyrants will be tyrants and they will start deleting information they disagree with, even if there is no scientific consensus that the information is wrong. And guess what, scientific consensus is sometimes wildly wrong. In the long run, scientific consensus is always at least partly wrong.
Don’t let the “cure” be worse than the disease. Civil dialogue should always be encouraged. Let the people vote with ups and downs. Let them disparage those that spread information. Let them respond with coherent arguments. Let them prevail with reason, not a club. An argument that can only win by silencing an opponent is too weak to stand.
Long live freedom, long live dialogue, long live debate!
(And if you want to live long, get vaccinated.)
