Externalizing cost of green house gases
I wonder what the libertarian solution to climate change is (If you think its all a hoax this is not for you).
In my opinion if you emit CO2 or other green house gases you are externalizing cost on society. Everybody else has to pay (get insurance against more natural disasters or some day has to move because he lives to close to the coast) because you emit gases. Its similar to throwing waste into a river or leaving your trash in nature. I am all against taxes however the amount we can emit is limited so we need a way to decide who gets to emit how much. That’s why I am for CO2 certificates which allow you to emit a certain amount of green house gases. How should we distribute them?
- One solution would be that everybody gets the same amount of certificates and is free to trade them
- Another solution would be that the government (ught) auctions them and the profit is shared between every person.
TLDR: I think externalizing cost of business and life on society is anti capitalist and anti Libertarian
