What would you say my ideology is?
I’ve always felt somewhere in between conservative and libertarian, but I really don’t know which, and hopefully there is a more specific label I can use for my ideology. Essentially, I believe that the government’s role should be limited to protecting citizens’ rights to life, liberty, and private property, noncitizens’ and foreign civilians’ rights to life (outside of our country), and our nation and our allies’ rights to self-defense, autonomy, self-determination, and independence, so long as the human rights of the innocent are respected.
I believe it is important for our nation to first and foremost protect our nation’s rights, our citizens’ rights, and our allies’ rights. To a limited extent, I also believe we should use limited means, first and foremost economic and diplomatic but also militarily if necessary as a last resort, to protect the human rights of all innocent people in the world, although I’d certainly label myself as militarily isolationist.
As a side note, I do think it is important to distinguish between citizens’ rights and human rights. Human rights include freedom from violence, oppression, murder, rape, slavery, etc. while citizens’ rights include right to life, liberty, and private property to the fullest extent, in my opinion.
In addition, when it comes to domestic issues, for lack of a better word, including both economic and social issues within the country, I’d say I am pretty much completely libertarian. I believe all peaceful adult citizens who are capable of consent have the right to do absolutely anything they choose to do, with their money, their bodies, their property, and their lives, so long as they don’t violate any one else’s rights (abortion, murder, theft, kidnapping, etc.).
When it comes to the military, i support a strong and secure military force pretty much just for self-defense and defense of our allies, and as an absolute last resort to protect the rights of the innocent.
When it comes to immigration, I support limited border security so as to prevent terrorists, human/sex traffickers, and other violent criminals/crimes from entering into our country. With that, I would then support a completely open border, so long as we end welfare and replace it with a temporary negative income tax model, which is not provided to new immigrants.
When it comes to trade with other countries, I mostly support free trade. I don’t support protectionism, although I do believe that certain economic means may be necessary to protect the rights of our citizens, as well as other innocent people across the world, measures such as embargoes or tariffs, etc.
My favorite individuals, including commentators and politicians, are Ben Shapiro, Ron Paul, Ronald Reagan, Barry Goldwater, Milton Friedman, and John Locke.
