“People of Color”?
What exactly is a “Person of Color”? And when did we start categorizing people by skin color again? Does it even mean skin color? I’ve heard this term used to describe poor people, the homeless, the uneducated, but that doesn’t make sense to me if it’s about skin color, because those demographics contain many ethnicities. Is it somehow less offensive to lump individuals into groups now because you switched the placement of the words from “Colored People” to “People of Color”? When I bring this up to my Democrat friends and aquaintences, I am told that I think this way because of my “inherent racism” and “white privilege”. So I am inherently racist because I was born with a light skin tone? Is that not an inherently racist statement? I feel like we are moving backwards in society when it comes to civil rights. Or maybe I just don’t get it.
