Why are middle ground politicians and policies always doomed to fail?
Maybe I’m stupid (and you can tell me if I am) but I feel like combining economic and social policies from both sides would be a lot easier than it seems.
For example, I don’t understand why we don’t tax the hell out of the rich but offer really really good tax breaks for them if they invest their money into new enterprises. For example, if the problem with trickle down economics is that the majority of upper class people don’t use the tax breaks in ways that help the economy, only give them to the few who do. Use the taxes from those who don’t to invest in better welfare and social programs. You can use both supply side and demand side economics together, now you have both extremely rich, poor, and middle class people ALL stimulating the economy- that will also fix the raciaI barrier that years of systemic racism (which by default forced a large majority of African Americans into poverty) has created.
The oil industry is destroying our planet, but trying to destroy the oil industry is a fruitless endeavor. For example, policies that interfere with oil production in an attempt to force the move to electric cars is pointless as the machines that dig up the materials to make the batteries that power the cars use more fossil fuels than the cars do, not to mention a warehouse worth of diesel generators will inevitably be what’s charging the batteries… Instead of forcing a quick change with no easily accessible alternatives, go the tax breaks option again. Offer long term tax breaks to investors and gas giants who invest in moving to nuclear energy. Yes, nuclear energy is hard to kickstart because of ALL the regulations, but businessmen chasing the “Almighty Dollar” will do whatever it takes to get it.
I agree with having strong borders, but I also agree with immigration. The reason so many illegal immigrants come into our country is because our immigration system is awful. We need to invest federal tax dollars into more employees, offices, and holding areas in every stage of the immigration system. We should also partner with other countries to help them reform their record keeping.
I just don’t understand why more people want to see politicians that can benefit more than just them
