When in the Course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.
Separation. From the private corporations pretending to be political parties representing the people, and the corporate media outlets controlling their narratives and information. From the institutions that cage us along political ideologies and then pit us against each other like 3rd world cock fights. In the shitshow that is modern American politics we as citizens have forgotten what we all have in common, we’re all American and we all love bitching about the government. So let’s all get together an bitch about the government in our localities.
Enter The Citizens oversight committees(COCs). Big, beautiful COCs all over America.
Basically, this is a grassroots proposal where private citizens peacefully assemble from time to time as is their constitutional right to do so and ask one non-partisan question of their local government. One question that everyone can agree is pertinent.
“How are you spending our tax dollars?”
This isn’t a political party, A money making scam, or even an official group with officers and membership. If donations are taken then they are taken for charity, local sports teams, or to cover the costs to rent space from a firehall or small business. The group would consist of people from your local communities, that you know and trust. Doctors, lawyers, accountants, mechanics, engineers, farmers, regular people showing up at bullshit jobs just trying to get by. Anyone willing to show up and lend their expertise to the local issues affecting your daily lives. Demand the records. Scrutinize them yourselves. Is your local government being honest with you(it’s not)? Do you agree with what they’re doing with your tax dollars? Is the government going anything at all to make your lives materially better? If not then vote them out. Hold your local officials accountable. If your local group doesn’t like what the political parties are offering, then run your own candidates. Agree amongst yourselves on where to send private political donations. To candidates you choose.
Politics has become too much of a black box in distant cities that you may or may not have ever even been too. It’s been taken out of the hands of the people where the political power comes from and put into the hands of a small minority completely insulated from accountability. Our government based on that alone has become tyrannical, with most people not even caring to vote or pay attention. The people that do vote were more than happy to delegate these responsibilities at the ballot box, to the point that governments and public officials now legally lie to us with impunity and nothing can be done about it thanks to the mob mentality we’ve adopted at the ballot box and the psychological warfare waged on us by corporate political parties and media. It’s a team sport, and these developments in our democracy have only benefited the rich and their payed for politicians. and That has to change, and it has to start at the local level.
Reforms to state and federal government won’t happen overnight, but local politics is a lot easier to affect and its mostly right in front of your face. You can see it. In comes the COCs. The greatest threat to the entrenched powers holding your government hostage is organization. Get a bunch of people together, with some independent experts from your own communities, march down to city hall and demand the truth. As people. As free citizens of a democratic republic, not as political zombies high off the last shot of fear propaganda. Demand the records. If you get them and don’t like what you see vote them out. If they refuse and try to drag public records into a court fight to keep you from seeing them, vote them out and replace them with people that will let the pubic scrutinize the record. Don’t let them hide your government and their corruption from you. Localities are just as slimy and corrupt as anything else, most most don’t care much about it, even when it’s right in front of them. So get political, get local, find some people from your town, and just start bitching about the government until something changes. If citizens start clearing out corrupt local officials then state and federal officials are just bigger fish to fry. The American people need confidence that they actually have their hand on the wheel and control over their government and the best way to do that is to start local. You don’t need a political party or media outlet to look at what’s going on where you live. If you do, then you’re a lost cause. So join a big ‘ol COC today and take your government back. Fuck political parties.
