Landing place for former Republicans?
Is the libertarian tent big enough to accept principled conservatives who feel that the Republican party has left them? I’m talking about people who would prefer lower taxes and smaller government, but don’t agree that all taxes are theft. Or that existing limits on abortion should be maintained as they are in many states (not increased as they are trying in the courts now). Or that perhaps gun ownership could be controlled with a well executed process of background checks and registration (better than how is being done currently), plus a higher set of qualifications for owning guns that can shoot lots of bullets very quickly. The kind of people that can agree with greatly decreasing regulation on drug use and supporting progressive voting rights. These are the things I believe in. I know they don’t all fit exactly with the usual libertarian philosophy, but I’m looking for a new party and at the moment, you guys are the closest thing to how I think. Should I keep looking?
