Libertarianism is not, by any means, correlated to Centrism. This is not a “hurr-durr bof sayds ahr retahded” political affiliation.
Libertarianism at its roots is not a centrist philosophy. To decide that you are a libertarian, based on a centrist whim, is damaging to the party.
Centrism in American politics, has a core aspect of respecting anyone on the political spectrum’s opinions, so long as they don’t overstep your own. Centrism as a philosophy welcomes limits of your rights as long as the limits are agreeable to the individual’s preferences. It’s an unhealthy abortion of American politics, it’s the “I play both sides so I always come out on top” meme of the political world.
So if you describe yourself as a centrist libertarian, which so many of you in this sub do, you are misguided. That’s just factual, to be a “centrist” and have any political views is hypocritical.
Libertarianism is, by definition, the belief that no governing body should hold authority over the people, and limiting the rights, of anyone, is a crime against humanity. The Ninth and Tenth amendments were specifically authored by libertarians, and for that reason, staunch conservatism of the bill of rights is the main goal of our party, and all of the freedoms therein are to be conserved for all peoples in the Nation.
